About CryptoLens

CryptoLens is a UK-focused crypto tax and portfolio tracking tool, built and operated by Hayden Southall in England.

I’ll be straight with you: it’s an indie product. There’s no team, no investors, no glass-walled office. It’s me, building from home, shipping features most weeks, in evenings and weekends around a full-time job.

Why I built this

I held crypto for years and dreaded every UK Self Assessment. The existing options were US-FIFO tools translated badly into pounds, or expensive enterprise platforms aimed at accountants. HMRC’s rules — Section 104 pooling, same-day matching, the 30-day “bed and breakfasting” rule — were a black box, and getting the maths right meant either a £400 accountant or a weekend of spreadsheets.

CryptoLens is the tool I wanted: paste a wallet, get an HMRC-compatible output, no card needed for the first scan. UK-first by design, not as an afterthought.

What CryptoLens does today

  • Scans 29 blockchains — 16 non-EVM chains plus 13 EVM networks. Paste one EVM address and we hit all 13 at once.
  • Applies HMRC Section 104 pooling, same-day matching, and the 30-day bed-and-breakfasting rule natively.
  • Generates SA108-ready PDF and CSV exports for Self Assessment.
  • Free tools: gas tracker, tax-loss harvester, DCA simulator, wallet zodiac, roast my wallet, fumble checker.
  • Pro from £4.99/month with a 7-day free trial — no card needed for the trial.

Honest disclosures

CryptoLens is a personal project, not currently a registered limited company or registered self-employed trader. It is pre-revenue: no paying customers at the time of writing. Once trading income crosses HMRC’s £1,000 annual trading allowance, the appropriate UK business registration will be put in place and disclosed here.

The product reads on-chain data and pulls historical token prices from third-party feeds (CoinGecko, DefiLlama, public block explorers). It never touches private keys or seed phrases. Card payments are processed by Stripe — CryptoLens never sees or stores card details.

Tax calculations are best-effort and follow current HMRC guidance, but CryptoLens is not a tax adviser. For complex situations (DeFi loans, NFT royalties, business-trader status) consult a qualified UK accountant.
